Public-interest conduct

Ethics Policy

Our newsroom aims to minimise harm while reporting accurately and independently.

Contributors disclose relevant conflicts, protect confidential material, respect embargoes and avoid deceptive newsgathering. Private information is included only where there is a defensible public-interest reason. Gifts do not secure coverage or alter a conclusion.

What readers can expect

Our process is designed around proportionate verification, clear labelling and a permanent route for feedback. Where a page relies on a source, the link should help the reader inspect that source directly.

How this policy is applied

The responsible editor records material decisions, checks conflicts and revisits pages when reliable new information changes the picture. This policy is reviewed alongside the publication’s other standards.
